Installation & Dismantle (I&D) Lead

Location: Calgary, AB (Based out of Müller Expo’s Calgary Office)

Position Summary

The Installation & Dismantle (I&D) Lead is responsible for overseeing the construction, preset, installation, and dismantling of trade show exhibits for Müller Expo. Based out of our Calgary, AB office, this role leads onsite crews, ensures projects are completed efficiently and safely, and maintains high standards of quality and client service both in the warehouse and on show site.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and supervise staff in the construction and preset of exhibit projects in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Oversee onsite installations and dismantles, ensuring quality control and adherence to project specifications.

  • Acquire and organize materials required for exhibit construction and show site execution.

  • Resolve onsite issues quickly and effectively while maintaining professionalism.

  • Pack, crate, and secure exhibits and client-owned materials to ensure safe transportation and arrival.

  • Accurately log hours, job details, and required documentation in a timely manner.

  • Travel to various cities to supervise multi-day installations and dismantles as required.

  • Train and mentor preset leads and junior I&D team members.

  • Utilize hand and power tools (drills, hammers, etc.) safely and effectively in both warehouse and onsite environments.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years of trade show or exhibit industry experience

  • At least 1 year of show floor experience

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Forklift certification (3+ years preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work 40+ hours per week, including overtime and weekends as required.

  • Ability to read and interpret building schematics and pull lists.

  • Experience installing fabric and other graphic substrates (vinyl, PVC, etc.).

  • Proficiency using mobile devices and computer software for submitting payroll, expenses, and travel documentation.

  • Strong leadership and training capabilities.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong accountability and ownership of projects from start to finish.

  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues without escalation.

  • Open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement.

  • Willingness to travel to trade shows as required.

Roles & Responsibilities

Exhibit Construction & Installation

  • Perform repairs and touch-ups on booth components.

  • Build exhibits using schematics and pull lists.

  • Lead booth setup and dismantle onsite using organized documentation.

  • Install graphics across various substrates (vinyl, PVC, fabric).

  • Identify and report errors, blemishes, or damages during setup and crating.

Crating & Logistics

  • Securely wrap, shrink-wrap, and package exhibit components and graphics for transportation.

  • Travel to show sites or events to assist with installation and dismantle.

  • Operate mid-size and large box trucks safely and responsibly.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Train and mentor Preset 1 & 2 employees and new hires.

  • Collaborate closely with Project Management and Production teams to fully understand project scope.

  • Maintain consistent communication with internal teams during show site builds.

  • Serve as a client-facing representative onsite—keeping clients informed and calm while reporting issues internally.

Administration & Travel

  • Book travel arrangements (airfare, hotels, vehicles) through approved vendors.

  • Submit per diem and expense reports in accordance with Accounting procedures.

  • Complete post-show recaps with photos for Project Managers and Marketing.

Warehouse & Operations (Calgary Office)

  • Maintain organization of tools and supplies within designated warehouse areas.

  • Coordinate local deliveries and pickups from vendors and clients.

  • Maintain a clean and safe warehouse environment, including:

    • Garbage removal

    • Sweeping and cleanup

    • Basic tool maintenance

    • Inventory management

    • General warehouse upkeep

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and position heavy exhibit components, including aluminum panels, rolled carpet, custom counters, and other materials.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks required in warehouse and show site environments.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Improve efficiency of booth assembly processes on show site.

  • Strengthen communication with division and city managers to ensure all booth details and special notes are accounted for prior to installation.

  • Review field-related setup challenges with relevant teams and provide solutions to reduce onsite assembly issues.

  • Successfully train and develop Junior I&D crew members in both warehouse and field environments, ensuring proper booth assembly methodology from electrical and flooring installation through final client handoff.
